Sixteen-year-old Gwendolyn Shepherd is a pretty average teenager. Except for the small detail that her family keeps a secret: For centuries, a mysterious "time travel gene" has been passed down, whose carrier can - and must - travel into the past. Suddenly, Gwen is swept off her feet and flung into another century. From then on, her life, which until now has consisted mainly of girlfriends, school and movies, is turned completely upside down.
An ancient, obscure secret society enters Gwen's life. The "Guardians of the Count of Saint Germain", as the powerful members call themselves, are in possession of a so-called "chronograph", that can control Gwen's time jumps. When Gwen meets the handsome Gideon de Villiers, who suffers from the same condition, her confusion is complete. No one believes in her. Fortunately, there is her best friend Leslie, who helps her with advice and support.
Gideon and Gwen reluctantly become time-traveling companions. Gideon and the secret society treat her with nothing but arrogance.
The goals of the powerful society remain mysterious. A visit in the 18th century to the founder of the lodge, the legendary Count of Saint Germain, is supposed to bring Gwen in line. But the Count has uncanny powers and warns Gwen not to rebel against him. Gwen feels confirmed in her distrust of the Lodge's activities. Something is not right here. What are their plans with her? And why do the need her so desperately? There's only one way to find out: She must find the prophecies, which are guarded as a top-secret sanctuary of the Lodge. Together with Gideon, she embarks on an adventurous hunt through the past. She finds out that she herself is the last piece of the puzzle that the Count needs to achieve his goal.
